Physical Education at Milnthorpe Primary School

PE and sport facilities at Milnthorpe Primary School are excellent and include a large field, marked athletics track, all-weather astroturf court and a range of fixed fitness equipment.

We place a great deal of importance on children's physical fitness and development, all our pupils take part in two hourly sessions each week of physical education. Swimming is taught in years 3,4, and 5.

We have an excellent sporting record locally and nationally, competing in a range of sports to great success and providing pupil's with the opportunity to be competitive at the highest levels.

Physical Education - Purpose of Study

Milnthorpe Primary School aims to provide high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time
  • engage in competitive sports and activities
  • lead healthy, active lives.
